Released on July 1, 1979. Launched as TDK's standard-class compact cassette tape for metal bias. Like the MA-R mentioned later, the magnetic material used was TDK's proprietary metal powder, FINAVINX. At the time of release, only 46-minute and 60-minute versions were available, similar to the MA-R. However, a 90-minute version was added on March 1, 1980. In July of the same year, some product specifications were effectively changed, and detection holes for the auto tape selector for metal bias were added to the top surface of the cassette half. After several improvements, production, shipping, and sales ended in September 1998, being replaced by the MA-EX mentioned later.
